Hip…hip…hooray… still seeing it your way!

Bright and early on a Monday morning, we beamed with delight as we showed off our brand new premises in Knysna’s newest mall.

The new look Muir Optometrists is, excuse the pun, certainly eye catching – stylishly modern and very spacious. To show our appreciation for the hard work and professionalism of the contractors and their workers in creating “our wonderful new work space”, we invited them all for early morning coffee and biscuits to mark the opening. We decided that the workers are often overlooked so we offered them vouchers for a free visual screening at Muir Optometrists – “It’s our way of saying thank you.”

We also paid tribute to a little piece of history – 25 years ago, when Andy set up the practice in Knysna, Amanda Vlok was the very first person to have her eyes tested. Now 93 years old, and still a valued patient, Mrs Vlok cut the ribbon and eloquently declared the new practice open!

We are planning a special function in the New Year to celebrate the new premises and Muir Optometrist’s 25th anniversary with all our patients. This is the Muir’s third move in Knysna and hip, hip, hooray it looks like we're here to stay!

Eye charts for Primary Health Care Clinics.

General Optical of Cape Town donated Snellen eye charts and occluders for sixteen primary health care clinics in the Knysna region. These charts are used to measure visual acuity in diabetics as well as general patients, and are suitable for both children and adults.

The Rotary Club of Knysna augmented the charts with normal letter charts so that they are applicable for all levels of literacy. Rotarian Andy Muir, of Muir Optometrists, was the driving force of this project.

At the handover of the charts, Andy held a training and demonstration session for twenty primary health workers at the Provincial Hospital in Knysna.

Oakhill's 'Play It Forward Futbol Festival'.

Muir Optometrists donated some fun, oversized Soccer Word Cup spectacles to Oakhill's Play It Forward Futbol Festival!

Oakhill Prep School hosted a very successful Futbol Festival on Friday, 21 May, with nearly 50 learners from Rheenendal, Ruigtevlei, and Rondevlei Primary Schools in attendance. The day was inspired by the MySchool Play It Forward competition by Woolworths. Five 7th graders, their mom’s and a few of the Oakhill teachers teamed up to make the event happen.

The day was also a celebration of 21 days until the kickoff of the 2010 Fifa Soccer World Cup. Four stations were created with kids participating in mini soccer matches, goal kicking practice, tricks and a full field game. All the children had a fabulous time and with prizes on the offer, were definitely giving their all.

2010 Summer Sunglasses Launch

Held in November 2009, the launch saw Georgio Armani, Emporio Armani, MaxMara, Gucci and Dior sunglasses that were previously unseen here in the Garden Route.
